Extension and Research Programs

Dr. Wilcox’s Extension and research focus is on the factors that impact rural economic development. His Extension work seeks to enhance community vitality by strengthening the capacity for new and existing businesses to thrive and grow through community-based initiatives. Dr. Wilcox co-founded the Sustainable Tennessee Extension program which integrates the economic, environmental and social dimensions of sustainability into programming related to entrepreneurship, workforce development, bioenergy, population dynamics, and land use. In addition to his primary Extension responsibilities, Dr. Wilcox is currently working on research projects concerning entrepreneurship, rural migration and workforce development. Dr. Wilcox is also involved in a broad international agricultural marketing project that seeks to resuscitate the Liberian tropical tree crops sector after more than a decade of civil war.
